It is one of the largest cave routes in the world and it possesses a rich cultural legacy. A small part of the route is prepared for guided visits. You can access the cave, which is situated in the southern gradient of the Cordillera Cantábrica, through Espinosa de los Monteros, Cornejo and Cueva. Numerous holm oaks and gall-oaks grow outside the cave, inside which it is possible to find different species of algae and fungus.

It is also the home for numerous predatory animals, including griffon vultures, Egyptian vultures, wild boars, foxes and wild cats. Up to 63 species of invertebrate cave fauna have been discovered in its interior, four of which are native. The river Guareña gets into the interior of this limestone rock mass, creating the karstic complex of Ojo Guareña.
